Ginger and garlic paste is the best!

This simple recipe for tarka dal is now my go-to favourite, mainly since I discovered Sapna Ginger & Garlic paste.

Obviously this would normally be made with dried lentils, but since discovering how creamy the cannellini beans become, this is my favourite recipe for daal.

Method

  1. Add the ghee and oil to a pan with a good pinch of black pepper
  2. Stir in the onions and fry for five minutes until slightly coloured
  3. Add all of the spices and dry ingredients and stir fry for one minute
  4. Mix in the ginger and garlic paste and fry for a minute until well mixed
  5. Pour in the beans and tomatoes and combine well
  6. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring regularly and added a little water if the mixture starts to congeal


Serving suggestions

Serve with chopped fresh coriander

Chef's notes

If you prefer a smooth tarka dal then run the dal through the blender before mixing in the tarka.

This freezes well.
