These Jamaican 'cakes' are also known as journey cakes because they are ideal as a travelling snack.
Ingredients

- 500 g plain flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 30 g butter
- Water
- Oil for deep frying
Method
- Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl.
- Mix in the butter and enough water to make a stiff dough.
- Shape them into 5 cm balls and deep fry them in moderately hot oil until they are brown.
Serving suggestions
Serve with butter for breakfast, or as an accompaniment to fish or meat.
