Quantity of mashed potato

Summary

  • Use 600g of cooked mashed potato
Tunisian beef pie, ready to bake
(using 850g of mashed potato)

I making this, I cooked enough mashed potato for four people without measuring the quantity.

When I came to put the recipe together and measured the amount of cooked mash I had made it was 850g!

I measured 350g of mash and mixed it in with the meat, onions and eggs, the potato virtually disappeared. I added the remaining potato and it looked fine, as in the picture.

350 g may be the correct amount but it certainly did not look right to me, nor would it have fed 4 people. I am wondering if it might be the result of Internet Chinese whispers

I would welcome feedback from anyone with experience of an authentic Tunisian beef pie to clear this one up - in the meantime, I would suggest you use more than 350g of potato.

Follow up after tasting - I would now recommend using 600g of mashed potato - 850 g was too much - 600 should be fine.
