I had forgotten this recipe and was just tidying some pages (the 'big hitters' - shredded suet, strangely) and when I saw the picture I remembered how good it was. I love crispy dumplings - be a nice meal for a cold winters day.

When I first made this recipe, I don't recall grilling the dumplings to finish, though I think I must have. The second time I made this they had not browned, even after 45 minutes cooking. They browned and crisped up almost immediately after a few minutes uder a hot grill - very good they were too!
I am also going to remove the reduction stage, I didn;t bother with it this time and it was not needed. Easier and simpler now.
