Talk:Christmas beer can turkey
MAS wanted to do ours this way, but does take up a lot of oven space. The microwave also combines as a conventional oven, but never used it that way. Will be worth considering for next year. --JuliaBalbilla 06:53, 26 December 2009 (GMT)
We had top demote the turkey to the smaller oven of the 2, it *just* fitted in the end, though I was concerned if it fell over or went so moist that it fell apart, in situ. Was fine in the end and would do it again this way as it was great success. The microwave needs to be huge to take even a beer-can chicken, let alone a turkey, or were you thinking of using that for the vegetables?

6.2 kg turkey won't fit (upright) in our smeg which is a standard unit size. Need to be inventive on Sunday as I WANT IT BEERCAN!

Oh what a shame :-( I hope you come up with something. Perhaps you will have to get a smaller one and freeze the existing one?? How many are you for Christmas as 6.2kg sounds massive. --JuliaBalbilla 18:14, 23 December 2011 (GMT)
It's my fault - bought (frozen) in a mad rush yesterday morning. 6.2 was the smallest I could get, We are only feeding 4 but will use the remains in other recipes during the hols.
Sounds massive? It is massive (6.5kg actually!), about the size of a small donkey - Beer-can donkey!!!
Update
Looking good. Once defrosted and a little more neck bone removed, a dry-run shows that with a bit of leg manoeuvring it will just fit without touching the sides or top, though it is tight. Panic over. -- Chef
3h 20m cooked to perfection - leaving 1h in 'off' oven Sounds good. The other way around it I was thinking was to partially roast it coventionally to get it to shrink then to stick it on the beercan.
Apples says that he thinks a beer can would be too small for the cavity of a turkey that size and that you will need to stitch the skin around it, or something. Sounds a bit fiddly to me! --JuliaBalbilla 14:29, 24 December 2011 (GMT)
Glad it turned out OK. Delia did us proud today, keeping the hot tapas nice and hot. Poor old Apples keeps burning his fingers on it though :-( Made too much food though, so not enough room in my tummy to try the 7 cheeses I bought. That will have to wait until tomorrow now, with some rolls (home-made of course) and salad. --JuliaBalbilla 17:33, 25 December 2011 (GMT)
