Esrom cheese

Esrom cheese (top right)

Esrom is produced with pasteurised semi-skimmed cows’ milk and is from the town of the same name. It is a semi-hard, Trappist-style cheese and is matured for 10-12 weeks.

The cheese has a mild, pleasant taste when young, when it is similar to Port Salut, but becomes stronger and earthier as it matures. However, because it is rind-washed, it has a pungent aroma. It is pale yellow, with tiny holes and has a rectangular shape and an orange rind.
