Wigmore cheese

Wigmore is an unpasteurised, ewe’s milk, semi-soft cheese from Village Maid Cheese in Riseley, Berkshire. It is a washed, curd cheese, which means that some of the whey is washed from the cheese keeping the finished item mild and sweet.

The cheese itself is generally soft and creamy with flavours varying with the seasons according to what the sheep are eating. It has a bloomy rind and is suitable for vegetarians. The cheeses weigh about 1.4 kg, have a diameter of between 20-25 cm and are 4-5 cm in height.

Wigmore cheese has won several Gold Medals at the British Cheese Awards and can be obtained online from 'FarmW5. It is also available from Paxton and Whitfield, and Neals Yard Dairy though you will need to check if it is available on line.
