Tomato press

A tomato press is a gadget which extracts juice from tomatoes whilst automatically removing the skin and seeds. Made from non-toxic, food-safe materials and dishwasher safe, it has a suction base. With practice, you can process up to 50kg of tomatoes in an hour. It is also suitable for pulping cooked vegetables in the same way as a mouli.

Firstly, you need to loosen the skins by plunging the tomatoes into boiling water for about 15 seconds. You then chop them into quarters and place them in the top container of the press. By turning the handle, the juice is extracted from a chute into a bowl, whilst the pips and seeds are forced out of the side into another receptacle.

Habitat used to produce a metal version of this but it seems that red polypropylene versions are the only ones currently available in the UK. Rather than recommend a specific supplier, my advice is to Google tomato press to find the best price. They all seem to look the same and perform more or less the same function.
