Talk:Stuffed butternut squash

Re: joining the two halves together

After having read the last paragraph about 5 or 6 times (have made marrows and courgettes stuffed with savoury mince mixtures myself many times but this recipe is extra special and I plan to try it sometimes, even though I don't really like squashes), I think I eventually understand what you are trying to say.

It's a bit like that keeping water separate trick with the two glasses (one right way up with clear water, one upside down full of red-coloured water on top of it) and the playing card or piece of paper in between them, see here.

Perhaps a photo or short video would help to explain it to newbies.

(Personally, I prefer to cook both halves open/separate/upright and melt cheese on them in the last 10 mins and finish off under the grill, but I guess it won't work in this case cos the rice has to be steamed to cook. Perhaps if the rice is parboiled or completely cooked first......?)

It is exactly as that trick.

It could be done with pre-cooked rice but that totally defeats the object of the recipe. It's also a very popular page because people find it after seeing it on Jamie Oliver's TV program and I imagine people want to roughly copy what they had just seen on TV. It's not a difficult recipe anyway so why try to make it another way? :-) --Chef 16:32, 1 August 2010 (BST)
