Am I right in thinking that the silicon types (big and little) should absolutely NOT come into contact with gas flames, heating elements, naked flames (candles, primus stoves, barbecues, etc) or other sources of ignition? If they do, I think the silicon can start burning or smouldering and that the fumes they then give off are noxious, choking and highly toxic.

Please don't try this experiment at home, kids - I just wonder if it says anything on the label or instruction leaflets that come with these products.

Burning Silicone rubber: (that's what these gloves are) - Not the same as silicone - though you probably know that anyway.

I have overheated silicone rubber in the past (by welding and just experimenting as a young TV engineer!) and I don't recall any noxious fumes. However, I do remember that it takes a massive amount of heat to actually start it burning - far more than is available from naked flames that are likely to be encountered in a domestic kitchen.
