Pèbre d'aï cheese

Pèbre d'aï aka Poivre d'âne is a soft French cheese. It is made in Provence from goats' or ewes' milk, is circular and has a height of 3cm.

Its name comes from its coating of several dried herbs, one of which bears the name of pèbre d'aï (donkey pepper) in the Provencal dialect. This aromatic plant is in fact the perennial winter savory (Satureja montana L).
