Devon Oke cheese
A gold award winner at "Taste of the West" Food & Drink Awards 2006, Devon Oke is produced by Curworthy Cheese at Stockbeare Farm in Jacobstowe, near Okehampton.
The drum-shaped cheese has a buttery taste with a rich, cheesy flavour, but lakcs the acidity associated with cheddar. It has a nutty finish and a salty aftertaste.
Belstone cheese is Curworthy's vegetarian version and the is also a smoked version called Devon Smoake, which is Devon Oke, smoked over oak chippings.
