Reblochon cheese


Reblochon is an AOC and AOP unpasteurised cows’ milk cheese from the Savoie départment. Thônes is the centre of production, and the cheese is still made in local cooperatives.

The soft washed-rind cheese is produced from the milk of the Abondance, Tarentaise and Montbéliard breeds and comes from the evening milking. It measures 14cm across and 3–4cm thick, has a soft centre with a washed rind and weighs an average of 450g. The rind is covered with a fine white mould and is matured for six to eight weeks.

Reblochon has a nutty flavour that remains in mouth and is an essential ingredient of Tartiflette, a Savoyard gratin made from potatoes, cream, onions, and bacon. It is also a key ingredient of the Valtho Burger which is sold in Val Thorens.
