Method

  1. Lightly season the plaice fillets
  2. Dip in the beaten egg and then the breadcrumbs
  3. Lay them in a buttered oven-proof dish
  4. Dot with half of the butter
  5. Bake at 190° C (375° F - gas 5), [fan oven 170° C] until the fish is nice and golden - about 20 minutes and slightly less for fan oven
  6. Meanwhile, melt the remaining butter in a frying pan
  7. Add the mushrooms and lightly cook them
  8. Stir in the cream, mixed with a little lemon juice and tomato purée
  9. Pour this sauce over the plaice and return to the oven for a few minutes.

Serving suggestions

Serve with mashed potatoes
