This is a recipe to make English muffins that are similar to crumpets. It's not a recipe for those horrid gooey sweet things!

  1. Add all of the ingredients to your breadmaker and set to a long (3 hour +) dough program
  2. French dough setting on a Panasonic SD253 breadmaker
  3. Menu option 21 (French dough) on a Panasonic SD-ZB2502 automatic breadmaker
  4. Knead lightly and roll out to 6 mm (1/4") thick
  5. Cut out 8 cm (3") discs
  6. Cover with a damp cloth and leave in a warm place until doubled in size
  7. Bake at 320° C (450° F - gas 8) for 10 minutes
  8. The muffins should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom with a knife

Serving suggestions

Toast lightly, butter and serve immediately
