New page

<GoogleBanner>other-pages</GoogleBanner>
I would slightly reduce the qty of spices, especially salt and chilli and increase the volume of liquid.

This was amazingly economical, 1.3 kg of pork cost £4.30 (May 09) and would feed 2 people for about 5 days with veg and potatoes.

Old quantities
These are the original recipe quantities.

* 1.3 kg (3 lb) boneless pork shoulder.
* 1 tablespoon sea salt
* 4 tablespoons brown sugar
* 2 tablespoons paprika
* 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder freshly ground if possible.
* 1 tablespoon mustard powder
* 1 teaspoon peppercorns, ground to a powder in a coffee grinder
* 1 tablespoon chilli powder or a bunch of your favourite dried chillies, powdered
* 1 tablespoon coriander seeds, ground to a powder
* 2 teaspoons garlic powder
* 1 teaspoon ginger powder
Cook it over:
* 450 ml cider
The reduction
* 1 tablespoon brown sugar
* White wine vinegar to taste

I have reduced these to those on the main recipe page.

1 orange

1/2 lime

1 tablespoon muscv.

Advance warning
I added a section about preparation time, some of which for this recipe to be 24 hours in advance.

If you don't like, delete.

If OK, please say what format you want and where in the layout of this (and other recipes, for future reference) it should be.

Is there a way of tagging recipes that need advance prep (marinading, etc)? If I'm planning something for a special event, I might particularly target and look for such dishes (just to show off).

Sorry, I really don't like that, espically the bold italics - looks like an HTML page from the 80's!

The format from the recipe builder and templates is rigidly fixed for a number of reasons, mainly to keep the layout constant and the look fresh and clean - something that many people comment on.

The other reason is that internal parsers (for the ingredient printer, random home page, menu generator) rely on a fix standard format and will break if that is altered.

I can't see any benefit in tagging recipes that take long preparation. Tagging recipes as simple or complex might be an idea, although there would be an awful lot of work to do anything like that retrospectively.

OK, that's fine - that's why I asked cos I'm aware that the layout/format is important for reasons which are hidden and/or not obvious to the casual user.

So, just a line at the end of the About This Recipe section in normal in normal type, like this:

Note: This recipe needs to be prepared xx hours in advance.
