| Rinse the [[Dried|dried]] [[Pulses|pulses]], soak overnight in cold water, refreshing a few times. Rinse well and drain.&lt;br /&gt;
| Add the [[Pulses|pulses]] to a pan, cover with twice the volume of water, bring to the [[Boil|boil]], cover and [[Simmer|simmer]] vigorously until they are slightly overcooked. Skim any  scum from the surface and add extra boiling water if they start to dry out.  This will take about an hour and a quarter.&lt;br /&gt;
| Drain the [[Beans|beans]] and [[Lentils|lentils]] and roughly mash into a [[dal]], cover and set to one side.&lt;br /&gt;
| Heat the [[Butter|butter]] in a pan or [[Wok|wok]] and add the whole [[Cumin seeds|cumin seeds]]&lt;br /&gt;
| Once they start to pop, add the [[Cinnamon stick|cinnamon stick]], [[Cardamom pods|cardamom pods]], [[Cloves|cloves]], [[Garlic|garlic]], [[Ginger|ginger]] and the [[Onions|onions]] and sauté until the onions are translucent.&lt;br /&gt;
| Stir in the [[Tomatoes|tomatoes]] and [[Tomato purée|tomato purée]], [[Chilli powder|chilli powder]], [[chillies]], [[turmeric]] and mashed [[Dal|dal]]. Taste for seasoning and [[Simmer|simmer]] for 15 minutes, adding extra water if needed.&lt;br /&gt;
| Remove from the heat, add the [[Cream|cream]] and garnish with [[Coriander leaves|coriander leaves]].&lt;br /&gt;
