  1. Arrange half the potato, apple and onion in a pie dish
  2. Sprinkle on the nutmeg, seasoning and lemon substitute
  3. Lay the herrings on the top
  4. Cover with the remainder of the potato, apple and onion mixture
  5. Roll out the pastry
  6. Cover the dish with it, and bake in a hot oven (220° C / 425° F / Gas 7) for 30 minutes
