Follow this procedure to create your own recipe on Cookipedia

If you get stuck or confused at any point - please do talk to me, I will do my utmost to help.

  • You need to be registered to add any content to Cookipedia, so please register. Click here or use the login / create account link (top right).
    • We have no interest in your personal details - registration is purely a method to limit vandalism
  • Once you have registered, login using the same link
  • Type a unique name for your recipe into the search box on your left and click Go.
    • You will be presented with a list of pre-built templates to create recipes, ingredients, cooking methods etc.
  • Unless you are already au-fait with editing Wikis then I suggest using the automatic recipe builder utility that is linked on that page. This has been used to create almost every recipe on this Wiki and a quick peek at any recipe should give you an idea where to enter information for the relevant section. Just follow the on-screen instructions to create a new recipe. If you are returning to an unfinished recipe, just repeat the above procedure on your next visit. If you save your part-completed recipe, you will be able to continue from where you left off.
  • Categories: Your recipe will fall into one or more of the categories listed on the left of the recipe builder. The more categories that your recipe is in, the more exposure it is likely to get.
  • Check your edit by using the Show Preview button and once you are happy, save the recipe using the Save page button.
  • Upload an image if you have one. Any recipe with an image has an equal chance of appearing on the home page as the random featured recipe.
    • There is a template at the top of all newly-created recipe pages: {{Template:PageAwaitingImage}}, which makes it easy to identify pages that require an image. If you add an image to your recipe, deleting this template will assist the administrators.
  • Don't be frightened of making mistakes as because this is a Wiki, errors can easily be reversed and previous page content retrieved.

Retrieving a recipe previously created with The Recipe Builder

If you have created a recipe with the recipe builder, but not yet saved it on the Wiki, you can easily retrieve it at a later date by following this procedure:

  • Login to Cookipedia
  • In the Cookipedia search box, enter the page name of recipe you previously began. The recipe name cannot already exist on Cookipedia, so do ensure it is unique
    • In this example, I originally entered the recipe as Pineapple frozen yoghurt but as that recipe now exists, I will create my unique recipe as Pineapple frozen yoghurt (2). The name can always be changed at a later date.
  • In the recipe builder start menu, check the previously saved recipe (arrowed as shown)
  • Click proceed to return to the recipe builder to complete your recipe.

If you think this help document can be improved, then by all means make the changes you see fit or add you suggestion to this page's discussion page
